What is Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is practiced in many different ways, which is often confusing to potential clients. I believe that people should have a good sense of the manner in which their mental health professional practices and I provide information about my core beliefs on this site. It is also very important that there be a good "fit" between client and therapist. Toward this end, I offer prospective clients a free half-hour consultation either in person or on the telephone.

Benefits of Psychotherapy

More satisfying relationships and enhanced self-esteem

Improved ability for self-regulation, which is one's ability to tolerate and understand one's own feelings and thoughts as well as the ability to soothe oneself at times of stress and/or discomfort

The ability to recognize and talk about one's feelings and ask for what one needs; often when people have not learned to talk about what they feel and to seek support from others, they express their feelings through troublesome and self-defeating behavior

Improved performance in school and work; as people develop their ability to manage their feelings and to communicate their feelings and thoughts to others, their ability to concentrate and focus on tasks is improved
